Patriots host 2 free agent wide receivers for workouts
The Patriots hosted a pair of free agent wide receivers for workouts on Monday.
Since releasing JuJu Smith-Schuster late last week, the New England Patriots have had an open roster spot. Will they fill it with another wide receiver?
On Monday, the team hosted a pair of wide receivers for workouts. According to multiple reports, Kenny Lewis and rookie Xavier Smith were in town to meet with the Patriots.
Lewis played most of his college career at Division-II West Virginia Wesleyan before transferring to Morehead State as a grad student in 2022. In his lone season with the Eagles he caught 27 passes for 498 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Lewis also returned kicks. He went undrafted last spring.
White was a UDFA this past April after a five-year career at Texas Tech. He played running back early in his career before moving to wide receiver in 2022. Last year in 13 games White, who checks in at 6-foot, 200 pounds, caught 39 passes for 556 yards and a touchdown. He also has kickoff return experience. Smith initially signed with the Colts as a UDFA after the draft in May, but was waived at the start of camp.
Lewis and White aren’t the only players to work out for the Patriots since they opened up that roster spot. They also hosted four free agents for visits on Friday.
