Bruins the betting favorite to land a big fish
The NHL draft is tonight at the Sphere in Las Vegas and the Bruins have entered the first round after trading Linus Ullmark to Ottawa this week. The team has been without a first round after attaching them in the trades over the last few seasons. In a pre-draft interview, general manager Don Sweeney said “Getting back into the top part of the draft was important for us, it’s not an easy task at this time of the year. Those don’t trade hands very often at this point in time. But the opportunity was there. Hopefully we can take advantage of it.” The GM has money to spend and is looking to fill positions of need.
One big name has been linked to the Bruins and is currently the betting favorite to land in Boston in Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl who is in the final year of his deal. This would require a trade that would have to include Charlie McAvoy who has a no trade clause that kicks in on July 1st. It’s not known what Edmonton is going to do, they just moved on from their general manager and just lost in game 7 of the Stanley cup finals.
The Bruins have some money to spend and some pieces to move. Although I think a trade from Draisaitl is unlikely, the Athletic is reporting the Bruins may only have enough to sign a center and a defenseman. Elias Lindholm and Brady Skjei would check multiple boxes and are realistic additions. The Bruins should improve this offseason and taking a swing at a big fish could begin tonight at the draft.
