NHL has apparently put the Bruins and Panthers on notice
The National Hockey League has made it clear that it does not want to see any additional fireworks between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers as the series shifts to Boston’s TD Garden.
After what was a penalty-filled Game 2 showdown between the clubs this past Wednesday in Sunrise, with the sides combining for 148 minutes in penalties, the NHL has informed both clubs that this series will be “heavily scrutinized moving forward.”
Word of the NHL’s warning to the clubs came via TSN’s Darren Dreger, and comes on the heels of the fight-filled evening stealing headlines with a scrap between Bruins superstar David Pastrnak and Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk.
The warning also comes with the Bruins bothered by the fact that Tkachuk took a couple of extra swings at Pastrnak’s head on the way down and after Pastrnak had hit the ice. Speaking after Game 2, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said that that is not part of the game in his opinion, while Pat Maroon had similar comments when speaking with the media following Friday’s morning skate at TD Garden.
There is some natural confusion with the league’s apparent memo to the clubs though, as the NHL seemed to center their marketing for Game 3 around the nastiness of Game 2.
Warnings and all, you can expect this game to have its share of nasty (and then some), as these are two teams who simply do not like each other.
