Ty Anderson: Bruins should go away from the goalie rotation after Game 3
Ty Anderson of 985thesportshub.com joined Zolak & Bertrand in studio ahead of Game 3 between the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs with the series tied at one game apiece. Much of the talk in this series has centered around the Bruins goalie rotation, but Ty has reasons why the Bruins should go away from the goalie rotation after Game 3 :
“If Jeremy Swayman gets the call tonight and he wins and he looks as good as he did in Game 1, he’s now 5-0 against this team. Do you want to continue to throw them the life raft with Ullmark? You gotta go for the knockout. So here’s what I’ll say. So I did some research.
“We’ve been talking about a month and a half now about the alternating goaltenders. “You can’t go two in a row.” Well, so Jeremy Swayman has had six pockets of getting a consecutive start this year. In those six starts he 5-0-1 with a .925 save percentage. That’s in the second start of getting a consecutive start. So he has been good in that second straight game. Now when you play him 3 or 4 in a row, that’s when you kind of run into trouble here a little bit. But his last loss, by the way, was his first time when starting two games in a row. He’s won five in a row when it comes to the second start of starting two in a row. So he’s been pretty good at it lately. And that’s why I was more along the lines of it should be somebody’s net until he loses. And you know, I think with Swayman the way he played in Game 1, I would have gone back to him in Game 2. The only question I had was workload.”
