Bruins pour it on late, shut out Predators 3-0
Charlie Coyle scored a shorthanded goal with 6:42 to go in regulation, breaking a scoreless tie and lifting the Boston Bruins to a 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena. After most of the game went scoreless, B’s ended up potting three goals in a span of 5:18 late in the third period.
Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark, meanwhile, stopped all 32 Predators shots for his eighth career shutout. Ullmark improved to 20-9-7 on the season with the victory, rebounding from consecutive losses.
Catching the Predators napping during a third-period power play, Ullmark ripped a long breakout pass up the boards and reached Brad Marchand, who drew contact then flipped a backhand to a streaking Coyle.
The centerman finished with a deke through Preds goaltender Juuse Saros to finally grab the game’s first goal. Ullmark notched his third career assist on the play.

The teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first period, with the Bruins holding an 11-5 edge in shots on goal, but only 7-5 at 5-on-5 (via Natural Stat Trick). High-danger chances were a 4-4 tie. Nashville battled back in the second to the tune of a 13-6 edge in shots on goal, but the Bruins grabbed three high-danger scoring chances to the Preds’ two.
The Predators continued to control the possession game well into the third period, but lost the game on their singular coverage breakdown on the power play. The B’s pulled away from there, as Danton Heinen and David Pastrnak (empty net) each scored to put the game on ice.
Up Next: The Bruins stay on the road for their next game, which comes Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.
