Marc Bertrand: Why Robert Kraft’s story on Calvin Ridley is believable
On Tuesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand explained why Robert Kraft’s breakdown of the Calvin Ridley negotiations is believable.
Patriots offer another $10 MM and I’m supposed to say no?
Marc Bertrand: The thing he’s (Robert Kraft) saying, though, is basically that they offered more money. Is that what he’s trying to suggest? That they offered more money? Because that’s what it sounds like to me.
Scott Zolak: I think they were at the money and he said they would keep going. That’s what he said. I think they were there and she’s (Calvin Ridley’s Wife) like yeah, we’re not coming here.
Marc Bertrand: So what you’re interpreting that as is we had more money to offer. They didn’t even want to hear our offer.
Scott Zolak: I think she didn’t want to be there and he also threw in there at the end that we don’t have a solid QB situation right now.
Marc Bertrand: What’s worse? This is a question for everyone. Is it worse that they either A, didn’t offer more or B, they weren’t even allowed to offer more because the player didn’t even want to hear it. They weren’t even allowed to make another good offer. Better offer. They weren’t even allowed to get to the point where they say, we’ll pay you more than anyone. The player didn’t even want to hear that because of the girlfriend that wants to live down south.
No savvy move by Calvin Ridley. You blame the girlfriend so you don’t have to tell the Patriots that I don’t want to come here. Actually, it’s my girlfriend that doesn’t want to come here, but you’re not a destination.
Marc Bertrand: It almost makes it believable.
Scott Zolak: Your girlfriend doesn’t want another $6 million?
Marc Bertrand: And by the way, why are you listening to your girlfriend on this?
Scott Zolak: Kraft already told you we cover a tax thing. That doesn’t matter. We would deal with that.
Marc Bertrand: Listen, they want to give me like another $10 million, and I’m supposed to not do that because my girlfriend wants to live in the South? No. Which I think makes Robert Kraft story believable, that this is actually how this played out. They would have offered more and so I guess we’ll give them credit for that. Fine. You’re willing to offer more. You didn’t even get the chance because the player had zero interest in the Patriots, didn’t even want to get a best offer from the Patriots because he was that turned off by the idea of going there. That’s a bad sign.
