Quarterback Jayden Daniels 5 as the LSU Tigers take on Texas A&M in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, November 25, 2023.

On Wednesday's edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Scott Zolak made it a point that the Patriots shouldn't be scared to trade up for Jayden Daniels if he's their guy.

You know what it's going to cost...

Marc Bertrand: So you take a lesser quarterback that may not pan out because you want to use other picks at some other point this year, next year, whatever capital you give up to go get Caleb Williams?

Scott Zolak: No, my point is you have a premiere player at receiver that's going to be available at three. We all know that. There's going to be tackles available. There's going to be offensive talent available in the top ten picks at your disposal right there for you. I'm just saying, if somebody goes nuts, and takes (Jayden) Daniels at two, say the Commanders take him at two and that was your guy, that's where you go up to get him right there to just move up one. I'm not just going to take Drake Maye to take Drake May if I got him ranked third.

Marc Bertrand: All right, so you're willing to trade up to two but not trade up to one.

Scott Zolak: We took the fifth quarterback a couple years ago at 15. You don't have enough talent. You don't have enough bodies. Even to go from 3 to 1, you know what you're gonna have to give up?

Marc Bertrand: A lot. You're gonna give up a lot to go from 3 to 2.

Scott Zolak: To get one guy.

Marc Bertrand: If you're gonna have to go 3 to 2 and give up a lot, why wouldn't you go from 3 to 1? Which is why I say, if they think Caleb Williams is the guy and I know he's got baggage, whatever his situation is and demands are and all that stuff. I say do it. If that's who you believe is the guy, and that's the guy you're going to have the conviction on. Go for it, go all out, go up to number one, go nuts. Trade away. You can't say you could trade up to two, but then say, don't trade up.

Patriots coaching staff tracker: Building out the staff

With Jerod Mayo's introduction in the books, the New England Patriots' next step is to build out his coaching staff for 2024. That begins with the coordinators, with the Patriots interviewing candidates for all three positions - offense, defense, and special teams. They'll also have to hire positional coaches once those coordinators are decided.

In 2024, the Patriots will be on their fourth offensive coordinator in four years. When Josh McDaniels left after the 2021 season the team went without an officially-titled coordinator in 2022, with former defensive coach Matt Patricia handling the bulk of the play-calling responsibilities that year. Last year the Patriots brought in Bill O'Brien to replace Patricia, but O'Brien ended up being one-and-done in New England - he took a job at Ohio State earlier this month.

READ MORE:

The Patriots haven't had an officially titled defensive coordinator since Patricia held the job from 2012-2017. Those responsibilities went to Brian Flores in 2018, then were split between Mayo and Steve Belichick from 2019 to 2023.

On special teams, the Patriots haven't officially parted ways with either coordinator Cam Achord and assistant head coach Joe Judge, who worked almost exclusively with the unit last year. However, the fact they're taking interviews at the position means those two likely won't be kept on Mayo's staff.

So, who will be coming in to take these jobs on the new Patriots coaching staff? Here's a look at the confirmed interviews for each position, which will be updated as more news comes in...
