Taylor Swift is anything but “disenchanting”
In an interview with Fox News (via USA Today), Tony Dungy explained why he thought that so few of the Gen Z generation describe themselves as “avid sports fans.”When Dungy was asked specifically about Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL, Dungy said that her involvement was “disenchanting people with sports now.” He went on to say:
“There’s so much on the outside coming in. Entertainment value and different things that take away from what really happens on the field.”
Stephen A. Smith Supports Kansas City Chiefs Fan Taylor Swift, Blasts ‘Ridiculous’ Tony Dungy. It’s getting ridiculous how she’s being criticized by some, insulted by others, blamed by many. Grow up.
There is no doubt Swift’s appearances at NFL games have made more people aware of the sport based off her worldwide appeal. I think people forget that many athletes girlfriends go to games. If people are watching just go see if Swift is at the game, it’s not a bad thing.

What has been bad is the broadcasts themselves. Super Wild Card weekend was boring. I was curious if she would be at the game and even more intriguingly if she will be in Buffalo this week. Taylor Swift has yet to respond to Tony Dungy’s comments. And she doesn’t need to but Dungy should look at the ratings. And if he has a big problem with the networks showing her, he should look at the company that employs him. It’s not Swift who is ruining the game experience on television. It’s him and the broadcasters. The play on the field hasn’t been great and either has Tony Romo and others.
Taylor Swift has done more in the world and the game of Football this year more than anyone else. Disenchanting is not a word I would use to describe the world wide superstar. But the haters are going to hate.
