Massachusetts’ Favorite Competition Show Is Surprising
In theory, competition programs have been part of classic television programming for a long time. However, the reality show takeover of the past 20 years has certainly led to a more innovative selection of head-to-head battle for outsiders to enjoy. The Loupe recently detailed the favorite competition show in every state, and in Massachusetts the choice is quite surprising.
“From singing sensations to culinary masterpieces and mesmerizing dance performances, competition shows have become a beloved part of our cultural landscape,” The Loupe says.
So, why is the favorite competition show in Massachusetts so puzzling? Well, it’s because the show no longer has new seasons.
America’s Next Top Model
To clarify, Hulu allows you to stream 11 seasons of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model. Perhaps many residents in the Bay State are also Hulu subscribers.
In order to compile this report, The Loupe analyzed Google Trends and search data from 2004 to the present. The results found that people love popular series such as America’s Got Talent, Shark Tank, and The Masked Singer. The Voice claimed the honor of being the competition show that audiences love the most. Six states had this as their choice. American Idol is still going strong with Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Ryan Seacrest. Moreover, it’s the second favorite competition show according to this ranking.
As for Massachusetts, we stand alone. No other state has America’s Next Top Model as their favorite competition show. If you need a refresher on the show, it started in 2003. Supermodel Tyra Banks mentors contestants as they compete to become an established model. “Participants learn to master complicated catwalks, fashion photo shoots and perfect publicity skills, all under 24-hour-a-day surveillance of the cameras that chronicle every move,” the show states.
Regarding our fellow New England states, another longstanding show came out on top. Those in Vermont and Maine love outdoor endurance with Survivor being their competitive series of choice.
