Perillo: Thoughts on Bill Belichick and his future with Patriots
Paul Perillo of Patriots.com joined Felger and Mazz on Wednesday to discuss the latest with the New England Patriots and the future of Bill Belichick in New England. Here’s what Paul had to say about the idea of Belichick giving up GM powers as a possibility with the Patriots.
What is the future for Bill Belichick in New England with the Patriots?
Paul Perillo: I mean, I think any and all possibilities are still in play until there’s a resolution. My feeling has sort of been consistent over I would say the last, I don’t know, six or eight weeks that I think that they will will move on. I think both sides will agree to some sort of resolution and Bill Belichick will either go somewhere else next year or not coach in New England. I don’t really see the whole “division of power” as a true option for Belichick and the PAtriots. I just, I don’t know how it works. Even if Bill would agree to it, I don’t know how it works in terms of him still coaching and sort of taking somebody else’s talent. And then, to me, the issue is as much about the roster as it is his philosophy and, you know, the way that they’ve been playing. And we’ve talked a lot about this during the course of the year about the conservative nature of offense. It’s almost like he doesn’t want to necessarily try to win these games in the 30’s. He wants to keep it down offensively as well. And, you know, I think we’ve seen some opportunities late in first halves that he hasn’t been overly aggressive, although I sort of understand this latest one in Buffalo, after all those turnovers. I just I don’t really see it as an option.
