The New England Patriots held their first practice of Week 9 on Wednesday as they get ready to face the Washington Commanders. To start the week, the team has 11 players listed on the injury report.
Of those 11, four missed practice entirely. Two of those four players – wide receiver DeVante Parker (concussion) and tight end Pharaoh Brown (back) were added to the report this week after getting hurt last Sunday in Miami. Offensive tackles Trent Brown (ankle/knee) and Calvin Anderson (illness) are back on the injury report after appearing last week.

Of the seven limited players, two are new additions to the injury report. Linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (hamstring), and cornerback Myles Bryant (chest) were both added after suffering injuries on Sunday. They’re joined by offensive lineman Vederian Lowe (ankle), defensive linemen Christian Barmore (knee) and Deatrich Wise (shoulder), linebacker Josh Uche (ankle/toe), and cornerback Jonathan Jones (knee).
As for Washington, the Commanders listed just six players on Wednesday’s injury report. That includes three starters who did not practice – wide receiver Curtis Samuel (toe), defensive lineman Jonathan Allen (rest) and cornerback Kendall Fuller (rest). Tight end Logan Thomas (heel) was limited.

5 post-trade deadline takeaways for the 2023 Patriots
The New England Patriots ended up making no deals on the day of the 2023 NFL deadline. Here are five takeaways from the deadline, as the Pats look toward the second half of the regular season…
Playing To Win

With apologies to those who hoped for a total firesale and blatant tank-job in New England, the Patriots were never going to go in that direction. Bill Belichick is reaping what he sowed after years of bad roster-building, and has shown a frustrating lack of urgency over the last couple of seasons. But he still wants to win as many games as possible.
And that my friends is how you tank. A poor roster that tries to win but simply can’t. And the Patriots probably will win a few more games in the 2023 season, much to the chagrin of a certain corner of lost souls.
The Patriots shouldn’t give up their soul. Which is that of a team that wants to win and strives for the highest level of success. Problem is, Belichick and the rest of the front office got in the way of that by building a substandard roster for a team with bigger aspirations than the worst record in the AFC. Even if the Patriots play their best possible football in the second half of the season, realistically, their best hope is probably 6-7 wins. They’ll have a high draft pick no matter how it goes from here.
Sunday in Miami exemplified the Patriots’ inadvertent tanking. They didn’t play horribly. They’re just not good enough, and don’t have the talent to compete with a team like the Dolphins. But at least they will keep working hard and competing, which people should want, unless you just want to be losers…
