LISTEN: Patriots radio call of Mike Gesicki’s game-winning touchdown
There were a number of big plays for the New England Patriots in Sunday’s 29-25 win over the Buffalo Bills. The capstone on the game though was a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mac Jones to tight end Mike Gesicki, which put the Patriots in the lead with just 12 seconds remaining in the game.
Bob Socci and Scott Zolak had the call. Here’s what the play sounded like on 98.5 The Sports Hub and the Patriots Radio Network…
The play is just the third time in the last 30 years the Patriots have had a go-ahead receiving touchdown in the last 15 seconds of a game, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. All three have come from three different quarterbacks.
Before Sunday, the most recent such play spurred another memorable call from Socci and Zolak. That was the “Unicorns! Show Ponies! Where’s the Beef” touchdown against the New Orleans Saints from Tom Brady to Kenbrell Thompkins in 2015. That score put the Patriots up 30-27 with five seconds to go in the game.
The final such touchdown was also against the Bills, back in 1998 at the old Foxboro Stadium. Despite getting out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter the Patriots found themselves playing from behind late. Down 21-17 in the final minute a questionable pass interference call put the ball on the 1-yard line with no time left, and Drew Bledsoe hit tight end Ben Coates for the game-winning score.
Here’s what it sounded like with Gil Santos and Gino Cappelletti on the call…
