Ted Johnson on the future of Bill Belichick in New England
Ted Johnson joined Mazz and Jim Murray on Friday’s Felger and Mazz and hit on the future of Bill Belichick in New England with the Patriots. Does Ted Johnson think Bill Belichick’s time in New England is just about over?
Is Belichick almost done in New England?
Mazz: Ted, do you think it’s over for Bill? Do you think he’s gone? When I say that, I mean independent of what the the presentation is. Bill retires or there is a mutual agreement, you know, whatever, as opposed to an outright firing. But do think we are watching the last days of Bill Belichick coaching the Patriots?
Ted Johnson: I do. I don’t know how you can’t look at it in any other way. I think it’s pretty obvious where it’s kind of how it’s been trending. There’s too much dysfunction, there’s too many holes, there’s too many question marks. The roster is a massive, massive problem right now. And it’s going to be a massive problem next year, too, Tony. I mean, they do not have a lot of guys signed up on contracts for for next year. And so, I’m sorry, you know, he’s 72 years old. There’s only so much energy and so much time that you can you can dedicate to your craft. I just don’t think he can do it as good of a job as he used to when he was younger. So I can’t imagine a scenario in which, you know, he comes back here next year and everybody is on board and everybody’s feeling good about the situation and Mac’s still here. I can’t imagine rolling out the same quarterback coach combo again next year that we have this year. I just can’t see it.
