Which players could the Patriots sell? Mike Reiss weighs in
Mike Reiss of ESPN weighs in on the Patriots approach at the upcoming NFL trade deadline. Could the Patriots be sellers? If so, which players could wind up finding their way out of town if the team should go in that direction?:
ESPN’s Mike Reiss on players that could be attractive to other teams at the trade deadline
“I always think Bill Belichick’s intentions are true. So I don’t think he would sabotage anything for the future. I think if it’s anything involving player like Kyle Dugger, Mike Onwenu players that I would identify as core pieces to try to move forward with, I would want to know, you know, what are we doing here? But if you’re telling me he can offload some bad contracts or salaries, which is generally what when you’re a seller, you’re usually trying to get rid of a mistake you made.
“Like I look at it and say like if a team would want Devante Parker, JuJu Smith-Schuster which I think is unlikely, but those are things that, you know, they might look at it and say, “Geez, we miscalculated on those. I’ll give you another, and I almost hate to do this because players hear their name come up and it’s pure speculation. I have no idea if it would even be considered, but like Davon Godchaux, who they signed to a $10 million a year contract, if I remember it right. You know, look, you’re a team that’s contending and you have an injury on the defensive line and you can add to your defensive line. That’s the type of trades we’re talking about. So you’re not getting much in return as much as getting out from a contract.
“I go down the roster like a guy like Mike Gesiecki, who was a franchise tag player in Miami. He’s a good guy. You want him around. It’s nothing against him. But if a team is willing to say, hey, we need a tight end and he’s a good pass catching tight end, you know, maybe like those are the type of things that if you’re going to get into the conversation here.”
