Phil Perry on Patriots-Saints: “don’t feel good about their chances”
Is this weekend a definite slam dunk win for the Patriots? Not so fast. Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston joins the show and tells Zolak and Bertrand why this Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints might not be the most favorable matchup for the Patriots, and it has everything to do with Saints quarterback Derek Carr:
‘I think the Saints are actually going to win’
They’ve got to win this one. And I don’t feel good about their chances of winning it. Unfortunately for the Patriots, Derek Carr is a real quarterback. He’s a starting caliber NFL quarterback. He might not be a good starting NFL quarterback, but that’s what he is. That’s what he’s been for a long time. And unfortunately for the Patriots, they haven’t beaten a starting NFL quarterback, a true starting caliber NFL quarterback in a calendar year. Guys, we are coming up on a big anniversary, October 9th, 2022. The Patriots beat Jared Goff. That’s the last time they beaten a true starting caliber NFL quarterback. It’s been a full calendar year. This game is going to occur on October 8th. And again, unfortunately for them, Derek Carr can play a little bit. He’s not good. I’m not saying he’s good. I’m not saying he’s great. He’s not the guy that he wants to play. Oakland for a few years, he was a borderline top ten quarterback in Oakland for a few of those years. You look at some of the numbers. So he’s not that. But he also ain’t Sam Ehlinger or Zach Wilson or Jacoby Brissett. Like this is a this is a mediocre team, but it’s a good enough team to scare you at home. And I think the Saints are actually going to win this game. I don’t think it’s a good matchup for the Patriots.
