A 75-year-old individual in Florida, identified as Michael Paul Wierzbicki Sr., was captured on surveillance video engaged in an unusual incident while attempting to rob a boat. In the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 17, he was recorded boarding a boat, all while the boat’s owner was asleep, according to the Punta Gorda Police Department.
After responding to a reported burglary at the Laishley Park Marina, officers were informed by the victim that an elderly man had been observed on the boat’s security cameras searching through their belongings. The victim’s allegations were verified by the police, who reviewed the provided surveillance footage. Additionally, the boat owner informed the police that the suspect had defecated on the boat and the dock during the attempted burglary, which was also confirmed when officers reviewed the security footage, as reported by WBBH News.
The victim further pointed out that the suspected burglar, Wierzbicki, was still present at the crime scene, sitting on one of the marina benches. Subsequently, Wierzbicki was apprehended and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
While Wierzbicki was in custody, officers received another call regarding a previous burglary involving an unoccupied vehicle a few blocks away from the marina. Upon arrival, officers encountered another victim who described their stolen belongings. It was revealed that the described stolen items were in Wierzbicki’s possession when he was arrested for the boat burglary, according to the police.
As a result, the 75-year-old man is now facing two charges of unarmed burglary of an occupied conveyance and one count of first-degree theft. Punta Gorda is situated in Southwest Florida, approximately 24 miles north of Fort Myers.
