Questions continue to surround JuJu Smith-Schuster’s performance and recovery from injury
During this morning’s Toucher & Rich radio program, Mike Giardi from Boston Sports Journal discussed JuJu Smith-Schuster’s performance while recovering from his injury. Giardi observes that JuJu seems to lack the explosive speed and agility needed for certain plays.
“I watched him closely yesterday as I was reviewing the game, and the lack of explosion in his body is evident. There are certain things they ask their slot receiver to do. For example, a quick return route where you release off the line of scrimmage, break towards the linebackers, pivot at your foot, and then cut back out to the outside. I have two examples that I’ve clipped on tape, and I’m going to share them on Twitter and Boston Sports Journal. In these clips, he eases into the cut, and he doesn’t explode out of the break.”
When asked if this is a temporary setback or a more permanent issue, Giardi expresses concern about JuJu’s physical condition, emphasizing that it’s not a mental issue. They mention that JuJu’s selling point when he joined the team was his ability to gain yards after the catch, but his recent performance in this aspect has been underwhelming. Despite his effort and commitment on the field, his body appears to limit his performance, which has led to a frustrating situation for both JuJu and the team.
“I feel bad for him. I do. Because, like, he’s giving his all out there. You can see it. He’s trying to block. He’s trying. There’s a commitment from him. It’s just that his body isn’t allowing him to do what he needs to do, or what he was brought here to do.”
