Talk about 2 teams going in different directions. Memphis and Navy meet tonight in the American Athletic Conference opener. Memphis is 2-0 and have yet to allow an offensive touchdown this season. The defense has been tremendous, allowing just 100 rushing yards and leading the nation in third down stops so far against Bethune-Cookman and Arkansas State. That does not bode well for Navy who scored 3 points vs Notre Dame and defeated Wagner last week 24-0 Brian Newberry, last year’s defensive coordinator is now their head coach and the option hasn’t been moving the chains like the past. They threw the ball 18 times, connecting on 11 in the coaches first win. They have run the ball 92 times and look to challenge the Tigers defense.
Memphis is led by quarterback Seth Henigan, he threw for over 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Tigers 37-13 win last season. Last year, he threw for 3,571 yards and 22 touchdowns and led the tigers to a 7-6 record.
Two team meet tonight in a conference game and should be able to get a better idea on Navy. But I think Henigan and Memphis will look to stop the option and get a win before their bye week. They take on Boise State in their next game.
