Here’s the only way Bailey Zappe won’t be on the Patriots in 2023
The preseason has come to a close for the Patriots and it’s onto the regular season. The quarterback position is solid, and with Mac Jones locked in as starter, Bailey Zappe got the lion’s share of the reps in the finale against the Titans. Behind a porous offensive line, Zappe went just 8-for-15 for 57 yards, while getting sacked four times. Despite his poor showing this summer, Zolak and Bertrand find it difficult to imagine that he gets cut. But, there is one path to a potential separation between the team and Zappe:

New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe (4) fumbles after getting hit by Tennessee Titans defensive end Denico Autry (96) during the first quarter at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Friday, Aug. 25, 2023.
The only way Bailey Zappe might lose his job…
Beetle: I think the head man [Belichick] likes him, and that’s why he makes the team. That’s why he’s going to be here. And he probably appreciates his attitude. Last year, when Bill Belichick had a lot of guys on his roster that were sort of tired of the [Matt] Patricia / Joe Judge experiment. They were really frustrated with that. Maybe one of the quarterbacks that’s no longer here was one of the more outspoken individuals about that entire setup. And so he probably has some level of appreciation for Bailey Zappe. He’s a scrappy player. And that’s why he’s going to be here and he’ll be the backup based on what he did last season, not what he did this preseason.
Zolak: He didn’t crap his pants last year. And that’s they can’t forget that.
Beetle: Here’s the one way I could see them considering it. Bill O’Brien thinks nothing of Bailey Zappe and really likes [Trace] McSorley because they have a history and that that’s it. That’s the path to Bailey Zappe no longer being here. But I don’t know that he could they get something for him in a trade. Late round pick.
