Beetle on Joe Judge: “Why is this guy still here?!”
After the Patriots revealed their coaching staff titles for the 2023 season on Thursday, Beetle wants to know why Jerod Mayo was not elevated, while Joe Judge remains the assistant head coach, and listed on the defensive coaching staff.

I didn’t really spend enough time thinking about what this means that he was listed under the defense. You go to the website and see the Patriots coaching staff- Jerod Mayo with no change in title. Still linebackers coach, and Steve Belichick still linebackers coach. I’m a big Jerod Mayo guy. Big advocate for Jerod Mayo. I think he’s wonderful. I think he’s got a head coaching career ahead of him. I think Jerod Mayo can do great things and reach great heights as a coach in the NFL or really at anything he chooses to do.
Joe Judge being on the defensive side of the ball is just one more thing Jerod Mayo has in his way of being the guy on the defensive coaching staff. He might be okay with that because I think the relationship between Steve Belichick and Jerod Mayo is fine. I think it’s good. And they seem to be the two guys leading the way on that side of the ball the last several years, right? Last couple of seasons, Yeah. Why do they have to deal with Joe Judge? Steve Belichick should have an issue with his dad right now. “Dad, why do I have to deal with this guy?! Jerod and I have a good thing going. Why do you have to dump him on us?”.
What is that? That sucks. Go away, Joe Judge! Why is this guy still here? Other than he’s getting paid by the Giants. It’s obnoxious. I’m more mad about this today than I was yesterday. I don’t get it. I don’t get why he’s here. I don’t get why he’s got a better title now than he had a year ago. I don’t get why Steve Belichick and Jerod Mayo now have to listen to him telling players what to do. And probably much like last year, you will have coaches on that defensive staff that then have to go to players and say, “don’t listen to him. This is what we want you doing.”
