Felger: It doesn’t matter who your running back is
As contracts for most position players in the NFL seem to be going up, the contracts for running backs seem to be getting smaller. Many running backs are upset with how things have gone for them and want to be paid more. On Tuesday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger gave his thoughts on the situation.
It Doesn’t Matter Who Your Running Back Is…
Felger: Who was the starting running back for the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs last year? Quickly, Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?
Jim Murray: Clyde Edwards-Helaire?
Felger: No. Who started? McKone?
Tim McKone: I got no idea.
Felger: Anyone? Did anyone remember? Anyone?
Jim Murray: Oh, Pacheco!
Felger: Isiah Pacheco. Seventh round pick. Rookie seventh round pick. I think he wore number 10. Whatever. It’s some guy. They just threw him back there and he was fine. Who was the starting running back for the Philadelphia Eagles who lost the Super Bowl?
Jim Murray: Oh, God….
Felger: Miles Sanders! Good player. You know what they did with him this offseason? Bye bye. See you later. Carolina was the dummies that signed him. 4 years $25 million you dopes. So they let him go. No problem. Didn’t put up a fight and then traded for D’Andre Swift from Detroit. Former second round pick. And Miles Sanders was the second round pick. Panned out, good player. As soon as he wanted his real money? Bye bye! See you later! We’ll just throw in another second round pick and as soon as this guy wants any real money….bye bye! We’ll throw in another guy or just draft some guy in the seventh round, throw him back there. It’s the running back position.
Felger: Last time you won the Super Bowl, who was your starting running back?
Tim McKone: Sony Michel.
Felger: He sucks!
Jim Murray: Yeah, right. That was a good offensive line.
Felger: The championship before that, who was your starting running back? Who started against the Atlanta Falcons?
J-Stew: LeGarrette Blount?
Felger: Nope. Dion Lewis. LeGarrette Blount sucks. Boy does he suck. Some are better than others, of course. I’m not telling you they all are the same. I’m telling you, in terms of championships, it doesn’t matter. It matters who your quarterback is. It matters how you pass the football. It matters your coaching and your smarts and your toughness. And you have to be able to stop the run….This is the great irony, you DO need to be able to stop the run. But in terms of who your running back is…..it does not matter.
