Revolution extend Matt Polster through 2025 MLS season

The New England Revolution have signed midfielder Matt Polster to a two-year contract extension for the 2023 and 2024 MLS seasons with an additional one-year club option for the 2025 season.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have signed midfielder Matt Polster to a two-year contract extension for the 2023 and 2024 MLS seasons with an additional one-year club option for the 2025 season. Polster, currently in his seventh MLS season and third with New England, has made 66 appearances with 52 starts since signing with the Revolution in 2020, tallying four goals and four assists.

“We are pleased to have signed Matt Polster to a new contract with the Revolution,” Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. “He has been a great contributor both on and off the field, and we look forward to his continued contributions to our team for many years.”

In his seven-year MLS career, Polster has totaled 148 league appearances, 125 starts, seven goals, and 14 assists across nearly 11,000 minutes played. The Las Vegas, Nev. product has added six games played, all starts, in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Polster became a key member of the Revolution roster in 2020 and was a staple on the 2021 side that won the Supporters’ Shield with an MLS-record 73 points. This season, Polster has tallied two goals and two assists in 21 appearances, with 17 starts, for New England.

Polster arrived in New England after a brief stint with Scottish Premier League side Rangers FC where he appeared in 10 matches. He began his professional career with Chicago Fire FC as a 2015 MLS SuperDraft selection. The defensive midfielder, who owns one cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team, totaled 82 league appearances over four seasons with Chicago, registering three goals and 10 assists.

“I am proud to continue my career here in New England and I am grateful to the coaching staff and the entire Revolution organization for their trust and support,” Polster added. “We have built a great foundation for success in recent years. I will continue to give my all on the field as we focus on returning to the playoffs and bringing a championship to New England.”

New England returns to action this Sunday, August 28, hosting LA Galaxy in the first of three home games for the Revolution in an eight-day span. The match at Gillette Stadium kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
