Felger: We were right about Tom Brady
News came out on Tuesday that Tom Brady was meeting with the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2019 NFL season. Though it was a surprise for some, Mike Felger let everyone know on Wednesday’s Felger and Mazz show that they knew something fishy was going on in 2019.
Transcript:
Mazz: The people who want to see it now that didn’t see it back then. Okay. I understand your point.
Felger: Oh, my God. Grow up or just listen to us. We told you in ’19 what was going on. It was obvious.
Mazz: It was. It was there back then. The way he talked early in camp there when he said, we are in uncharted waters. I don’t know where this is going to go. It was over then.
Felger: This is why you need us. It’s why you need us. You need us. You just go to Barstool, they just say “Oh, they’re making it up! You’re making it up!” and you’re going to buy a t-shirt. You need a show like this to tell you what’s what just to tell you the obvious. He had one freakin’ foot out the door. But the commentary now like Ben Volin, page A1 of your Boston Globe today. Ben Volin: ‘Dolphins Tampering in ’19 raises questions about Brady’s ending here’. He says, basically, Patriots fans should wonder if Brady sabotaged the 2019 season by having his head in Miami instead of Foxboro.
Murray: They started 8-0!
Felger: Sabotaging the season.
Murray: This is where it’s like you really get to twist yourself into a real mental pretzel.
Felger: Look, he did not put his best foot forward. He was not fully engaged. Where were you in 2019? OBVIOUS. Where were you in 2019? Of course, he wasn’t fully engaged. Would you be if you’re coming off an MVP season and your employer says, actually, your next contract, you have to prove it to us with incentives. Incentives. The two most, I mean you could talk about Betts and Bogaerts, to me the two most outrageous borderline criminal contract negotiations I’ve seen since I’ve lived here 30 something years, one was the Boston Bruins taking Ray Bourque to arbitration. Like, you’ve got to be kidding me, Harry. Like all-time low, all-time low, you’re going to take that guy to arbitration over a couple hundred grand, you pathetic cheapskate.
And then this. We’re going to make Tom Brady. Super Bowl in ’14. Super Bowl in ’16. MVP in ’17. ‘You’re gonna have to take some incentives in 2018.’
Mazz: This is worse. This is worse than Bourque.
Felger: Yes, I agree.
Mazz: It is. Because of Brady’s winning. You know, and again, I’m not I’m not criticizing Bourque in that way because the Bourque thing was that shameful, too. But this is worse.
Felger: So now his buddy Bruce Beal calls him. What you’re not going to take the call? What are you what are you freaking soft or you’re just in la la land? What do you think was going on? But yet now he sabotaged the season? You know, even Tom E. Curran’s podcast, I think his the headline on his podcast, Tom Brady’s Dalliance with the Dolphins leaves Dent on Patriots legacy. And Tom knows the score, but he’s speaking for the fans there a little bit.
Speaking of speaking for the fans, the Herald here, Bill Speros, the ‘Obnoxious Boston Fan,’ a little tongue-in-cheek. But this is great in the Herald. He’s got Kraft and Brady and Fredo and Michael Corleone. They did a good job with those pictures. There’s Kraft with the, you know, ‘You broke my heart, Fredo.’ It’s the same picture. He says, ‘Happy 45th Birthday, Fredo, I mean, excuse me, Happy 45th birthday, Tom.’
