In his latest rehab outing, Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale clearly wasn’t pleased with his own performance.
Sale finished his start with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox after 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and one run, walking five and striking out five. You can see in the video above, via Alysha Palumbo of NBC 10 Boston, that he roughed up the WooSox clubhouse in frustration.
Boston’s ace is recovering from a stress fracture in his rib cage that he suffered in the spring, holding him out of any baseball games until the month of July.
His first rehab start came with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, where he pitched four innings, struck out seven and allowed one run. Sale considers his most recent performance an “outlier” (via Alex Speier of the Boston Globe), as he’s slated to return to the majors as early as July 11.
“I’ve got things to clean up, but it’s nothing overwhelming,” Sale said, via Alex Speier. “I’m very ready [to return to Boston]. Today was a hiccup. It’s nothing that can’t be ironed out.”
Whenever Sale does come back, he’ll be thrown into the fire of the Red Sox’s schedule. July 11-17 presents seven road games against both the Rays and the Yankees, just before the All-Star break.
