The long-anticipated return of Red Sox ace Chris Sale is almost here.
Ian Browne of MLB.com reported that Sale will start for the Worcester Red Sox Wednesday night. Browne also noted that the 6-foot-6 lefty could return to Boston’s rotation for the first time this season as soon as next Monday, July 11.
Sale’s first rehab start came with the Red Sox’s Double-A affiliate Portland Sea Dogs on June 30. In that start he pitched four innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and striking out seven, including the side in the fourth inning.
“The feeling that I get [on the mound] I can’t replicate,” Sale said after his first rehab start. “And I miss it. I enjoy what I felt out there, I enjoy after the game, I enjoy even doing this [press conference]. I miss this. This is so much a part of what I am and what I’m supposed to be doing.”

July 11 is the start of Boston’s second series against the Tampa Bay Rays in as many weeks. They’re currently 1-1 against the Rays in the current series, which ends after Wednesday night’s game.
