Listen above as Alex Barth and Matt Dolloff of 98.5 The Sports Hub catch up on everything Patriots, look ahead to training camp, and more.
(1:00) Alex is noticing a potential shift in the Patriots’ offensive system and philosophy. The guys discuss what that could mean for the Pats’ offensive personnel and how they use it.
(11:45) The discussion zeroes in on the wide receivers, where there’s no superstar but a deep overall group. How much of Tyquan Thornton will we see in his rookie year? Are they going to keep everybody, or will there be an odd man out? Will DeVante Parker and/or Nelson Agholor ever pan out?
(15:12) Moving to the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots have had significant turnover in this area. How do they feel about the cornerback group for 2023? In the front-seven, someone unproven is going to need to step up in the post-Dont’a Hightower/Kyle Van Noy/Jamie Collins era.
(26:15) The guys discuss the running back depth chart. Is James White going to be the same player? If not, who on the roster could possibly step into his role?
(31:30) Jonnu Smith recently said Mac Jones has a lot of “dog” in him (in a good way). Meanwhile, Julian Edelman seemed to agree with Martellus Bennett’s past assertion of Jimmy Garoppolo being a “bitch” for not playing through injuries. The guys riff on which quarterbacks they think have the most and least “dog” in them.
(42:04) Finally, the Patriots are bringing back their red throwback uniforms with the white “Pat Patriot” helmets. Barth could not be more excited. Alex & Matt speculate on when they think the Patriots could & should wear their throwbacks.
