Trevor Story just keeps making history with his recent hot streak
Trevor Story is beyond red-hot at this point. The Red Sox second baseman’s recent surge at the plate is becoming downright historic.
Even before the Red Sox’ 16-3 destruction of the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, Story’s hot hitting had already become unique in baseball history. Last week, he became the third player ever and first since 2002 to hit three home runs in a game, then hit a grand slam the following day. He’s only continued to smash the baseball since then.
Story’s offensive explosion can now be expanded to a five-game streak, in which he’s hit six home runs and driven in 17 (!) runs. He’s now made an oddly specific bit of major league history: according to “Stats by STATS” on Twitter, Story is the only player to hit six-plus home runs drive in 17-plus runs over a five-game stretch while his team won all five games, since RBIs became official in 1920.
We can debate about the usefulness of that stat and RBIs in general, since the latter has become something of a dinosaur in baseball analysis. But the home runs alone are certainly of note for Story. He leads the majors with eight home runs over the past 15 days.
Not coincidentally, the Red Sox (20-22) are the hottest team in the AL East, with 10 wins in their last 13 games. Problem is, the first-place Yankees (30-13) continue to win and enter Wednesday with the best record in baseball. So, there’s still plenty of work to do.

Story and the Red Sox will look to continue their torrid streak on Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. ET. Rich Hill (1-1, 3.90 ERA) opposes Lucas Giolito (2-1, 2.84 ERA) on the mound.
