The Patriots held rookie minicamp over the weekend, with practices coming to an end on Sunday. As they prepare for full team workouts to begin this week, the team has made a couple of roster moves involving rookies.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Patriots have waived Miami quarterback/wide receiver D’Eriq King. The Patriots met with King multiple times during the pre-draft process, and made him their first UDFA signing after the draft. King was pictured working as a receiver during this weekend’s workouts.
Tarleton State defensive back Devin Hafford was also waived, as first reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss. The 2021 WAC Defensive Player of the Year signed with the team last week.
The Patriots have now released three members of their initial UDFA class so far. Offensive lineman Liam Shanahan was released over the weekend with a failed injury designation.
In addition to waiving those two players, the Patriots also signed UDFA long-snapper Ross Reiter. Reiter was a four-year starter at Colorado State and was named a Preseason All-American in 2021. The Patriots have shown a preference to have two long snappers in camp in recent years, with Reiter joining seven-year starter Joe Cardona.
After these three moves, the Patriots now have 85 players signed to the 90-man roster. It’s not uncommon for the team to be signing players as offseason practices begin. Their first OTA workout is Monday, May 23 with the first practice open to the media coming that Thursday.
