Bruins’ season ends at hands of Hurricanes in Game 7 road loss
The Boston Bruins’ season is over. The Carolina Hurricanes beat them by a 3-2 final at PNC Arena on Saturday, to take Game 7 and clinch their first-round 2022 Stanley Cup Playoff series.
Continuing a troubling trend, the Hurricanes scored first, accomplishing the feat for the sixth time in the seven-game series. After most of a tightly contested first period had passed, Carolina drew first blood off the stick of Teuvo Teravainen with just 1:24 remaining, repeating another bad Bruins habit of allowing late goals. The B’s out-shot the Hurricanes 5-3 at 5-on-5 in the period, but the home team had a 3-0 advantage in high-danger scoring chances.
The B’s were able to kill off a four-minute penalty after Taylor Hall was called for a high-sticking double-minor. But soon after the power play ended, early in the second period, the Hurricanes struck at even strength, as Max Domi gathered a fortuitous bounce from the point shot and finished down low to make it 2-0.

Boston wouldn’t go away quietly. It answered the Domi goal quickly, as Jake DeBrusk buried a nice bounce of his own off the stick of teammate Charlie McAvoy with a one-timer from the slot, making it 2-1 Carolina. The DeBrusk goal came just 1:50 after Domi’s score. However, Domi would get his second goal of the game just 5:29 after that, as Teravainen fed him in the slot and he did the rest, extending the Hurricanes’ lead to 3-1. That’s how it would stand.
David Pastrnak buried a one-timer from an open angle with just 21.7 seconds left in regulation, but it was too little too late.
The Bruins have now lost two straight playoff Game 7’s, dating back to their defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Blues in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. They had previously won two straight Game 7’s against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last time the B’s won a Game 7 on the road remains in Vancouver in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.
