May 2 marks the deadline for MLB teams to reduce their rosters from 28 players to 26 players. For the Red Sox, the team optioned RHP Phillips Valdez and recently claimed OF Jaylin Davis to AAA Worcester.
Valdez struggled with control early this season, from leading the league with five batters hit by pitches to walking two batters and allowing four earned runs on Sunday against the Orioles.
Davis was just claimed off waivers from San Francisco after producing a .840 OPS to start the season in AAA. In Worcester, he will further develop with the chance to continue that pace.
