Dont’a Hightower’s football future remains up in the air
The Patriots still have players from last year’s roster without a contract at this point in the off-season. For veteran linebacker Dont’a Hightower, a reunion remains possible – but uncertain.
According to a Hightower is still figuring out what he wants to do. If he wants to keep playing, he doesn’t need spring ball anyway. Could take a while longer.
Trading 76 would exacerbate an already thin spot. Pats coaches are committed to getting 15 more chances.

“Hightower is still figuring out what he wants to do,” Howe said. “If he wants to keep playing, he doesn’t need spring ball anyway. Could take a while longer.”
Howe’s report seems to indicate that if Hightower continues his playing career, he would likely do it in New England. But he could also be weighing the possibility of playing elsewhere, if another team is interested.
After opting out of the 2020 season, Hightower returned for his age-31 season in 2021 and recorded 64 tackles in 15 games.
