Highlights: Bruins jump Lightning in standings with overtime win
An overtime goal from Charlie Coyle pushed the Bruins to victory, and ahead of the Lightning for sole possession of third place in the Atlantic Division, Friday night in Tampa Bay.
Coyle’s game-winning marker, which came at the 3:37 mark of the extra frame, was created way down at the other end when Jake DeBrusk came through with a fantastic defensive effort against the Bolts’ Brayden Point. From there, the Bruins grabbed possession, and it was Charlie McAvoy and DeBrusk who came through with helpers on the walkoff.
The overtime sequence was DeBrusk’s second noteworthy play of the evening, as the white-hot winger opened the scoring for Boston with a backhander through the Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy at the 47-second mark of the second period. The goal was DeBrusk’s seventh in as many games, and his 15th in his last 23 games overall.
In net, Linus Ullmark stole the show for the Bruins with a dazzling 28-of-29 performance in net for his 23rd win of the year.
With the win, the Bruins took the season series over the Lightning by way of a 3-0-1 record.
The Bruins will wrap up their four-game road trip Sunday afternoon in Washington.
