As the NFL continues to expand to a global audience, the Patriots will be part of the NFL’s wave of games played overseas – eventually.
According to a new column from Mike Reiss at ESPN.com, the “belief” within the Patriots is that they’re “most likely” to play in Germany for a regular season game in 2023. This was a notable nugget because two of the Patriots’ road opponents in 2022, the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals, are playing in London and Mexico City, respectively. So the Pats will instead play at Lambeau Field and State Farm Stadium, and avoid overseas games for another year.
As for the rest of the upcoming season, the NFL schedule will tentatively be announced in the second week of May, a source told Reiss. The Patriots’ road opponents besides the AFC East also include the Steelers, Browns, Raiders, and Vikings.
The last time the Patriots played a game outside the United States was on Nov. 19, 2017 against the Oakland Raiders at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Check out photos from that game below.
