The Boston Celtics defeated the Washington Wizards by a 144-102 final on Sunday afternoon at TD Garden. Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 32 points, backed up by Jayson Tatum’s 22.
Boston also got a dominating performance out of their bench, which outscored Washington’s bench 67-51. The Celtics took a 70-59 lead into halftime, then followed that up with a 74-43 margin in the second half.
Despite the 42-point win, it was only the third-highest margin of victory of the season for the Celtics. They previously beat the Kings by 53 points on Jan. 25, and the 76ers by 48 points on Feb. 15. Since losing their first two games without injured starting center Robert Williams (meniscus surgery), the C’s have won two in a row to improve to 49-30.
After the win and the Bucks’ loss to the Mavericks on Sunday, the Celtics moved into the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. They are 0.5 games ahead of the Bucks (48-30) and 1.5 games behind the Heat (50-28) for the top seed.
