The Boston Celtics had a chance to tie the Miami Heat for first place in the Eastern Conference, but instead took a 106-98 loss on their home court Wednesday night. The C’s (47-30) are now two games back of the Heat (49-28) for the No. 1 seed, and sit at fourth overall. The third-seeded Sixers (46-29) are tied in games behind but have a slight edge in percentage points, while the Bucks (47-28) are at No. 3.
Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 28 points, and added 10 rebounds and six assists, while shooting 5-for-9 from three-point range. Jayson Tatum scored 23 points of his own, but came up empty from beyond the arc (0-for-5).
Al Horford started at center in place of the injured Robert Williams III, who is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Horford played 34 minutes and had a game-high 15 rebounds, while chipping in six points and four assists.
