The Bruins remain significantly shorthanded, but still got back on track with a 2-0 road win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Jeremy Swayman made 30 saves for his second shutout of the season, and fourth in 28 career starts. The B’s are now 1-1 in two games without Patrice Bergeron (head injury) and Brad Marchand (suspension).

The Bruins (27-16-3, 57 points) now get two days off before getting back to action on Tuesday, when they face the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Highlights: Bruins shut out Senators 2-0

  • Boston jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period, powered by a 22-8 barrage in shots on goal. Trent Frederic drew first blood for the Bruins jut 45 seconds into the game, finishing the second chance off a wild bounce.

Charlie Coyle sparked the play that led to the goal with a scintillating deke through the legs of Ottawa’s Tim Stützle, then fed it cross-ice to Craig Smith for a one-timer that goalie Matt Murray managed to stop. Frederic held his position by the net-front and made the most of a fortuitous bounce to finish it off.

  • Curtis Lazar put the Bruins up two with an end-to-end sequence, executed with a little help from linemate Anton Blidh. Lazar burst through the neutral zone toward the slot after chipping the puck ahead to Blidh, who fired the first shot on the rush.

Murray couldn’t handle the rebound, and the puck bounced perfectly back toward Lazar, who got credit for the deflection off his body and in.

  • Ottawa found a way to slow the Bruins down and battle back for an 8-6 shot advantage in the second period, but to no avail.

Blidh briefly believed he’d scored his third goal of the season in the third period, after another odd-man rush with Lazar. But the Senators successfully challenged the goal on the basis of goaltender interference, keeping the score at 2-0.

  • Swayman made 30 saves in all, including 13 on high-danger scoring chances, 11 of which came at 5-on-5.
