It’s not uncommon for newly-hired head coaches to hire assistants from their former employer. Former Patriots’ offensive coordinator and current Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels made his first such hire on Wednesday, just a few days after he was announced as the team’s new coach.
As first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McDaniels is hiring Bo Hardegree to his staff in Vegas. Hardegree will be the Raiders’ quarterbacks coach.
In New England, Hardegree was officially listed as an “offensive assistant” and co-quarterbacks coach with McDaniels. He only spent one season with the Patriots, with prior stops as an offensive assistant with the Jets, Bears, and Broncos and as a quarterbacks coach with the Dolphins.
Mounting losses mean the Patriots’ offensive coaching staff will likely look much different in 2022 than it did last season. McDaniels and Hardegree are already out the door, and running backs coach Ivan Fears – the longest-tenured staffer on that side of the ball – is expected to retire.
The first step for the Patriots will be finding McDaniels’ replacement at offensive coordinator. Who are their options? Here’s a look at some of the top candidates…
