Alejandro Bennifield has big goals going into the 2022 season and he’s looking to be even better than he was during his first season as the Pirates starting quarterback. Bennifield was awarded the United Bowl MVP and is a big reason why the Massachusetts Pirates won the United Bowl this past season. Bennifield was a dual-threat weapon with his arm and legs throughout the 2021 season but his talent really showed with multiple clutch throws and runs during the championship. The United Bowl MVP led the Pirates in rushing with 56 yards on ten carries with two scores and was 10 of 23 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

After Bennifield’s remarkable first season as the starter, he has a goal to repeat the championship and improve his game in every aspect. When asked about his 2022 goals, the Pirates QB said, “I’m looking to improve in every aspect and expand my game. I want to improve my running, accuracy, throwing and also my knowledge of the game.” Bennifield was named the Pirates starting quarterback after Sean Brackett went down with an injury during the first game of the 2021 season vs Louisville. After being the backup for the Pirates during the 2019 season, he was ready for the challenge and going into the United Bowl, he was ranked second in the league in passing yards as well as touchdowns and third in passing efficiency.

The 2022 season will be his second year as the Pirates starting quarterback. Bennifield wants to improve offensively so the team can repeat the championship and went on to say, “I want to get with the receivers, offensive line and the running backs and become a more complete offense.” Even though Bennifield wasn’t named to any of the All-IFL teams or Yearly Awards, he looks at winning the United Bowl as the most important award to him because the team is most important. He went on to say, “Those individual awards such as MVP, All-IFL and all that stuff doesn’t mean a lot to me. Those are just small accolades, but winning the United Bowl MVP was pretty cool.”
