Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy placed in NHL’s COVID-19 protocol
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy has been placed in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, the Bruins announced Tuesday.
With Cassidy out, the Bruins will have to rely on assistant coaches Joe Sacco, Kevin Dean, and Chris Kelly to run the bench for tonight’s head-to-head with the Detroit Red Wings.
Of the three, only Sacco has previously head coaching experience at the NHL level, coaching the Colorado Avalanche from 2009 through 2013. Sacco has been with the Bruins as an assistant since 2014. Dean does have head coaching experience, however, as he served as the P-Bruins head coach in 2016-17 before jumping to the NHL staff the following season.
Cassidy, who is vaccinated, is the first Bruins player or coach to land on the COVID list this season.
