Knocking on wood worked for Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy, as defenseman Charlie McAvoy will be in action for the team’s Black Friday matinee with the New York Rangers at TD Garden.
McAvoy’s good-to-go status comes after he was knocked out of Wednesday’s win over the Sabres on a nasty-looking board from the Sabres’ Zemgus Girgensons.
Speaking after the win, Cassidy noted that McAvoy needed some stitches, but was up and walking around, which was a positive sign. McAvoy being up and walking around on Thursday and delivering meals also indicated that the stitches were the only issue that came as a result of the hit.
Friday’s contest will not come with any lineup changes for the Bruins, according to Cassidy.
That means that Jeremy Swayman will get the call in net for Boston. The 23-year-old Swayman stopped 24-of-25 in Wednesday’s win over Buffalo, and enters play with a 6-3-0 record and .914 save percentage.
The Rangers will counter with Igor Shesterkin. New York’s goaltender is off to a hot start this season, too, with 10 wins and a .932 save percentage through 15 decisions this season.
This will be the first of three head-to-heads between the Bruins and Rangers in 2021-22, and first of two at home between the Original Six rivals. The Bruins went 5-3-0 against the Blueshirts last season.
Here’s the complete lineup and pairings for the Bruins…
Brad Marchand – Patrice Bergeron – David Pastrnak
Taylor Hall – Charlie Coyle – Nick Foligno
Jake DeBrusk – Tomas Nosek – Craig Smith
Anton Blidh – Erik Haula – Curtis Lazar
Matt Grzelcyk – Charlie McAvoy
Derek Forbort – Brandon Carlo
Mike Reilly – Jakub Zboril
