A strong week for Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has come with an honor for the 23-year-old backbone of the Boston defense, as the NHL announced McAvoy as the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for the week ending Nov. 14.
On the ice for four games in the last week, McAvoy tied for the league lead among in goals (two) and points (seven) by a defenseman through four games, and ranked tied for third in points and plus-minus (plus-6) among all skaters.
McAvoy saved his best for last on the way to his first honor of the 2021-22 season, with two goals in Boston’s 5-2 victory over the Canadiens on Sunday night. It was the first two-goal effort of McAvoy’s NHL career, and came just one day after he recorded three assists and blocked six shots in a win over the Devils. (With blocks only tracked as an official stat since 2005, McAvoy became the ‘first’ Bruins defenseman to record at least three assists and six blocks in the same game.)
The 6-foot-1, 206-pound defender currently ranks fourth on the Bruins in points (12) and is tied for second in assists (nine), while recording five multi-point games in 13 contests this season.
