J.C. Jackson wasn’t spotted at Patriots practice on Wednesday, and we now know why. Jackson is dealing with an illness, per Wednesday’s injury report.

Jackson was the Patriots’ lone player listed in the ‘did not participate’ category. It’s unknown what kind of illness he is dealing with, although since last season teams will tend to clarify if an illness is COVID related.

Jackson was one of three players listed who did not appear on the injury report last week. He’s joined by defensive lineman Christian Barmore (foot) and special teamer Cody Davis (hand). Both have previously been listed on the injury report this season – Barmore most recently in Week 7 with a shoulder injury, and Davis in Week 6 due to his knee.

Nine other Patriots were limited on Wednesday as well, all appearing on the injury report for the second week in a row. That group consists of guard Shaq Mason (abdomen), tight end Jonnu Smith (shoulder), defensive tackle Carl Davis (hand), linebackers Dont’a Hightower (ankle), Ja’Whaun Bentley (ribs), Josh Uche (shoulder), and Kyle Van Noy (groin), safety Kyle Dugger (neck), and kicker Nick Folk (left knee).

Six players were removed from the injury report, most notably special teamer Brandon King. King was limited all of last week then missed Sunday’s game due to a thigh injury. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, center David Andrews, defensive linemen Davon Godchaux and Deatrich Wise, and cornerback Shaun Wade were all removed too.

Meanwhile in Carolina, starting quarterback Sam Darnold (concussion/right shoulder) took part in stretching but not team drills. Cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver (toe) was also limited.

A number of starters are listed as ‘full’ participants, including left tackle Cam Erving (knee), wide receiver Terrance Marshell Jr. (concussion), linebacker Shaq Thompson (foot), and cornerback and former Patriot Stephon Gilmore (quad).
