Patriots stand pat as Chiefs, Steelers make moves at 2021 trade deadline

The 2021 NFL trade deadline has passed, and the New England Patriots did not make a move, according to multiple reports.

New England will instead rely on the depth charts they already had in-house, with potential to possibly add free agents off the street if an urgent need arises. We at 98.5 The Sports Hub previously looked at running back, cornerback, and wide receiver as potential areas the Pats could bolster at the trade deadline.

It’s still possible that the Patriots make a late-season add via free agency, but that may only happen if the team loses a player to injury. That could still happen at running back, a spot where James White’s season-ending injury has left a huge void. Here’s Alex Barth with some possible free-agent ideas for the Patriots.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, whose numerous sexual assault cases will keep him off NFL fields for the foreseeable future, was one player mentioned in trade rumors who ended up staying put. Other notable players not traded include Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and Colts running back Marlon Mack.

• Rams get Von Miller

  The Los Angeles Rams made easily the biggest move of the week, bringing in All-Pro linebacker Von Miller from the Broncos in exchange for a second-round pick and third-round pick, as first reported by Adam Schefter on Monday. This is L.A.'s "all-in" move, as they sit at 7-1 with arguably the league's best balance of offense, defense, and coaching. Adding Miller to a defense that already included Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey seems terrifying.

• Chiefs acquire Melvin Ingram from Steelers

  Veteran linebacker Melvin Ingram is on his way to Kansas City for a sixth-round pick, as Ian Rapoport first reported on Tuesday. The Chiefs desperately needed a playmaker for their defense, at any spot, anywhere. Ingram may not be quite the same player he was for several years with the Chargers, but he should get healthy playing time with his new team. We'll see if he's enough to help turn that defense around.

  Offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is headed from the Chiefs to the New York Jets, in a swap for tight end Dan Brown, according to Tom Pelissero. A minor retooling for each team up front on offense.
• 49ers get defensive end from Texans

  Defensive end Charles Omenihu is headed from the Houston Texans to the San Francisco 49ers. According to Adam Schefter, the Texans will get a 2023 sixth-round pick from San Fran in the deal. Omenihu has played six games this season and has not logged a sack, but has three QB hits and 11 tackles.
