Marcus Smart will not take part in the Celtics’ preseason finale after being suspended by the team, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“The Celtics will suspend guard Marcus Smart for Friday’s preseason game vs. Miami due to breaching team rule,” Charania tweeted Thursday afternoon. “Smart and Celtics have discussed the matter, resolved it and he was with the team on road trip in Orlando and now Miami.”

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN later reported Smart missed a team flight to Orlando, leading to the suspension. He should be back for the team’s season opener Wednesday in New York against the Knicks.

Asked about the suspension shortly after it was reported, Smart told reporters “That’s between me and the team. We’re handling that in-house.” Head coach Ime Udoka described Smart as “remorseful.”

Smart, like most of the Celtics’ key players, did not play in Wednesday night’s preseason game in Orlando against the Magic. Through two preseason games, Smart averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 assists per game, while playing 25.3 minutes per contest.
