On Wednesday, the Patriots announced the signing of safety Elijah Benton to their practice squad. The move fills the team's final practice squad spot, with the maximum 16 players now signed.

Benton was at practice on Wednesday, wearing No. 13. He had a free agent workout with the team on Tuesday, leading up to the signing.

Signed as a UDFA last year by the Browns, Benton spent his rookie year with Cleveland. He was active for one game, but did not see the field. The Browns released him as a part of final roster cuts this summer.

The Patriots now have three defensive backs on their practice squad in Benton, Myles Bryant, and D'Angelo Ross. That depth could come in handy as the team had three defensive backs listed on Wednesday's injury report.
