Casas, 21, played 77 games with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, batting .284 with 13 home runs and an .879 OPS. In 182 professional games, Casas has played 169 at first base, nine at third base, and four as a designated hitter.
As of Tuesday, Casas ranks 18th among MLB.com’s Top-100 prospects in baseball. Shortstop Marcelo Mayer, whom the Red Sox selected fourth overall in the 2021 draft, ranks ninth on the same list. But his estimated ETA in the majors isn’t until the 2024 season.
Casas, meanwhile, has an outside chance to make his major league debut before the end of the 2021 regular season. Either way, he should almost certainly be in the major leagues early in 2022.
