PHOTOS: Jones makes NFL debut, fans return as Patriots begin season at Gillette
For the first time since Jan. 2020, Gillette Stadium opened its doors to fans for a game of actual consequence, as the New England Patriots played host to the Miami Dolphins in a Week 1 showdown.
The game marked the official start of The Mac Jones Era, as the team’s top pick from the 2021 NFL Draft made the first start of his career following the team’s surprisingly release of Cam Newton earlier this month.
And though the 23-year-old was not able to pick up the win in his debut, the Alabama product performed admirably, with a 29-for-39 passing performance for 281 yards and a touchdown in the 17-16 losing effort.
