Chase Winovich‘s Instagram projection has finally come true. Winovich made his 2021 debut during the Patriots’ Sunday morning practice.

Sunday wasn’t just Winovich’s first practice of the summer, but his first for all of 2021. The 2019 third-round pick was absent from spring practices as well.

Winovich returns to a competitive battle among the Patriots edge rushers/linebackers. The Patriots’ defensive front is one of the deepest groups on the team, and he’ll now have to catch up during this week’s joint practices.

With Winovich activated, the Patriots have four players remaining on PUP. The most notable of the group is cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was in a holdout until the week before the season. Jarrett Stidham, Terez Hall, and Byron Cowart are also yet to practice this summer.

Along with Winovich, Hunter Henry, David Andrews, and Nelson Agholor all returned to practice on Sunday. Henry had been dealing with a shoulder injury that was reportedly expected to hold him out for ‘a couple of weeks.’ Andrews had missed time with a hand injury suffered in practice, while Agholor’s issue was unknown.

Following Sunday’s practice, the Patriots will make the trip to Philadelphia. They’ll have joint practices with the Eagles Monday and Tuesday, leading up to Thursday’s preseason game.
