Patriots reveal new jersey numbers for Mac Jones, rest of rookie class
The Patriots typically wait until the first preseason game to officially issue jersey numbers for their rookies. We now know what quarterback Mac Jones and the rest of the 2021 draft class will wear.
No surprise here: Jones will wear No. 10, which he wore at Alabama. Jimmy Garoppolo was the last Pats quarterback to wear 10.
The most eye-opening number, however, goes to the Pats’ lowest-drafted rookie: wide receiver Tre Nixon, whom the Patriots drafted in the seventh round, will wear No. 87. You’d have to think some large Rob Gronkowski fans will take offense to that, considering 87 should have a chance to be retired some day.
Clearly, Robert Kraft will never let another Patriot wear No. 12, which should be the case. But apparently, Gronk’s number wasn’t totally off-limits.
Here’s the full list of rookie jersey numbers for the 2021 Patriots, listed by draft position, including UDFA kicker Quinn Nordin:
QB Mac Jones: No. 10
DT Christian Barmore: No. 70
LB Ronnie Perkins: No. 51
RB Rhamondre Stevenson: No. 38
LB Cameron McGrone: No. 45
DB Joshuah Bledsoe: No. 34
OL William Sherman: No. 68
WR Tre Nixon: No. 87
K Quinn Nordin: No. 3
