Bruins draft Oskar Jellvik with No. 149 overall pick
The Boston Bruins continued their apparent tour of Sweden with their fourth pick of the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday, selecting Swedish winger Oskar Jellvik with the No. 149 overall pick.
Listed at 5-foot-11 and 179 pounds, Jellvik is considered a pass-first prospect, and is coming off a 2020-21 campaign that included six goals and 12 points in 13 games for Djurgårdens IF’s junior team.
Jellvik also appeared in three games for the club’s pro team this past season, but has played the majority of his games with the organization’s junior team, with eight goals and 16 points in 28 games with their U-20 team since the start of last season.
“I would describe my game as an offensive player with an edge,” Jellvig said. “My best ability is my skills with the puck and my hockey sense in the offensive zone to find my teammates.”
Jellvik is the third Swedish pick of Boston’s 2021 four-player class to date, joining first-round pick Fabian Lysell and fourth-round selection Philip Svedeback. This is the first three-Swede draft for the Bruins since 2000, which saw them take Lars Jonsson, Martin Samuelsson, and Andreas Lindsrom. Safe to say the Bruins are hoping for better results this time around.
And while Jellvig doesn’t know Svedeback, he had nothing but praise for the B’s top pick in this year’s draft.
“I think Fabian is a great player,” Jellvig said. “His offensive skills are unbelievable. When he comes off the rush against the D, he’s going to toe-drag it, put it between his legs, and go top corner.”
